The City of Bellevue is seeking interested residents to fill the term of a vacant Councilmember seat due to the resignation of Councilmember Melissa Tatum. Per Kentucky Revised Statutes, the current Council has 30 days to fill the vacant position. After 30 days, the vacancy would be left to the Governor to fill. City Council wishes to fill the vacancy before the 3o day period lapses. If you are interested in serving on Bellevue’s City Council, there are two portions of this application process.
Council Candidates must be eligible to serve as outlined in KRS 83A.040(4) – you must be a resident of Bellevue not less than 1 year, at least 18 years of age, a qualified voter in the City, and shall reside in Bellevue throughout his/her term of office.
Send a letter or email of intent to serve to Keith.Spoelker@bellevueky.orgby close of business (4:30) on May 24th. The letter should include your qualifications for the position and indicate why you wish to be a Council Member for the City of Bellevue. The City’s mailing address is 616 Poplar Street, Bellevue, KY 41073.
Councilmember candidates who have been verified using the KRS 83A.040(4) criteria outlined above will then be forwarded to Bellevue City Council for vetting and evaluation. It is the intent of Council to finalize their decision and appoint a new member by May 31st.
