School Buss Law Goes into Effect Just in Time for School

Changes to the law regarding vehicles stopping for a school or church bus went into effect July 15, 2026!
The Big Change: Multi-Lane Highways – Previously, drivers traveling in the opposite direction on a four-lane road were not always required to stop. That has changed.
The New Rule: You must stop for a stopped school or church bus with its stop arm and flashing lights activated from any direction on all roads.
The ONLY exception: The stop requirement does not apply to vehicles approaching from the opposite direction, provided the highway has four (4) or more lanes, AND those lanes are divided by an elevated barrier or an unpaved median.
If no physical barrier or unpaved median is separating the sides of the road–even if it is a four-lane highway–YOU MUST STOP.
