Understanding the Need for Foster Families in Campbell County

Foster care provides a safe, stable, and temporary home for children who cannot safely remain with their families due to abuse, neglect, or other circumstances. The goal of foster care is to provide children with the support they need while their families work toward reunification whenever possible.

In Campbell County, the need for foster families continues to grow. Currently, 181 children from Campbell County are in foster care, but there are only 47 licensed DCBS foster homes in the county. When there aren’t enough local foster families, children may be placed in neighboring counties, making it more difficult for them to maintain connections with their schools, friends, family members, and community.

Foster parents play a vital role in helping children navigate challenging times by providing a safe home, consistency, and encouragement. Foster care can last anywhere from a few days to several months or longer, depending on each child’s unique situation. Foster parents receive training and ongoing support throughout the process.

By increasing the number of licensed foster homes in Campbell County, we can help more children remain close to the people and places that provide comfort and stability during a difficult chapter in their lives.
