Northern Kentucky Water District Needs Your Help!
As part of updated federal requirements under the EPA’s revised Lead and Copper Rule, NKWD is completing a system-wide Service Line Inventory. This includes identifying the material of both the public portion of the water service line and the portion that is privately owned by homeowners or property owners.
While NKWD has already reviewed historical records, construction data, and field information, many older properties still require customer verification — especially those built before 1988, when a variety of materials were used (including copper, galvanized steel, plastic, and in some cases, lead).
Why This Matters
Understanding service line materials helps ensure:
✔️ Safer long-term planning
✔️ Compliance with updated federal water quality standards
✔️ Better protection against potential lead exposure
✔️ Accurate information for future system improvements
NKWD continuously tests the treated water leaving our plants — it does not contain lead. However, lead can sometimes enter drinking water if it comes into contact with plumbing materials or service lines containing lead.
