Daytime Single Lane Closures on Portion of Memorial Parkway (KY 1120) in Campbell County Beginning Thursday, June 11
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of daytime single lane closures on Memorial Parkway (KY 1120) in Campbell County beginning Thursday, June 11. This work is part of an ongoing resurfacing project that includes three state routes in Campbell County.
This portion of the resurfacing project will be on Memorial Parkway from Wilson Road (1.67 mile point) to near Highlands High School (3.87 mile point), a distance of 2.2 miles. Base failures were completed in late May.
Beginning Thursday, June 11, crews will perform milling and paving operations in the project area. This work will require various single lane closures between the working hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Flaggers will guide traffic safely through each side of the work zone.
Signage will be in place to warn motorists of the upcoming lane closures. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes to avoid delays.
Weather permitting, this portion of the resurfacing project is expected to be completed Friday, June 19. KYTC will advise on the KYTC District 6 Roadshow and social media if additional days are needed for this work.
Project Background
This resurfacing project also entails two other roads in Campbell County:
Mary Ingles Highway (KY 8) from KY 445 to Maple Street: this portion of the project has been completed.
Grand Avenue (KY 1892) from South Fort Thomas Avenue (KY 1120) (0.0 mile point) extending north to Churchill Drive (1.41 mile point): crews continue performing curb box repairs in this area. This work requires daily shoulder closures. Base failure work, along with milling and paving operations have not yet been scheduled.
This project includes a “Complete Streets” approach that is designed to improve safety and mobility for all road users. KYTC collaborated with the City of Fort Thomas to include a roadway reconfiguration from Churchill Drive to Fort Thomas Avenue. The current four-lane roadway will be converted to one lane of travel in each direction with a center turn lane, along with the addition of bike lanes on both sides. This design will improve safety for all users by reducing conflict points, calming traffic and providing dedicated space for bicyclists, while also maintaining efficient traffic flow through the corridor. You can learn more about Complete Streets here.
Riegler Blacktop Inc. is contracted to perform the $1.56 million project on behalf of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The project is expected to be completed by Aug. 1, 2026. KYTC is coordinating with the contractor to perform milling and paving operations for the ongoing Grand Avenue roadway rehabilitation project simultaneous to the above resurfacing project to provide a better completed product and road surface.
