CURRENT SITUATION
The National Weather Service is forecasting the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms across northern Kentucky this evening and continuing into the overnight hours.
The primary hazard associated with these storms will be damaging straight-line winds. Additional threats include large hail, locally heavy rainfall, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and isolated power outages. While widespread flooding is not currently anticipated, localized ponding of water and brief flooding in low-lying or poor drainage areas may occur where the heaviest rainfall develops.
The Campbell County Office of Emergency Management is closely monitoring forecast updates and maintaining communications with the National Weather Service Wilmington Forecast Office and local response agencies.

  • Damaging straight-line winds capable of downing trees and power lines and causing structural damage.
Secondary Threats
  • Large hail capable of damaging vehicles, roofs, and crops.
  • Heavy rainfall resulting in localized flooding of roads and low-lying areas.
  • Frequent lightning posing risks to outdoor activities.
  • Scattered power outages due to falling trees and damaged utility infrastructure.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS
  • Downed trees and limbs blocking roadways.
  • Isolated to scattered power outages.
  • Minor structural damage from high winds or hail.
  • Hazardous travel conditions during periods of heavy rainfall.
  • Possible disruptions to outdoor events and recreational activities.
  • Increased demand for utility restoration and public safety response.
CURRENT ACTIONS
The Campbell County Office of Emergency Management is:
  • Monitoring weather conditions and National Weather Service forecasts.
  • Maintaining situational awareness with county public safety partners.
  • Prepared to disseminate weather warnings through Campbell County Alerts (RAVE/Smart911) if conditions warrant.
  • Monitoring reports of storm damage, flooding, and utility outages.
  • Ready to coordinate resource requests should localized impacts occur.
RECOMMENDED ACTIONS
County departments and partner agencies should:
  • Review severe weather procedures and ensure personnel are prepared for potential response activities.
  • Secure outdoor equipment and loose objects that could become airborne in strong winds.
  • Verify communications equipment is operational.
  • Monitor National Weather Service warnings and local weather conditions throughout the evening.
  • Report significant damage or resource needs to the Campbell County Office of Emergency Management.
Residents are encouraged to:
  • Stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
  • Secure outdoor furniture, trash containers, and other loose items.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel during severe thunderstorms.
  • Never drive through flooded roadways.
  • Move indoors immediately if thunder is heard.
WEATHER OUTLOOK
Thunderstorm activity is expected to develop late this afternoon and continue into the evening and overnight hours. Not every location will experience severe weather; however, any storm that becomes severe may produce damaging wind gusts, large hail, torrential rainfall, and dangerous lightning.
